Dr Robert N. Bertoldo completed medical school training at the University of Health Sciences, Kansas City, MO, followed by a flexible internship at Rocky Mountain Hospital, Denver, CO. He was selected for primary training in Aerospace Medicine before his first Air Force assignment as a squadron medical element leader for the 428th Tactical Fighter Squadron (F-16B), Nellis AFB, NV. In two years he was sent to direct a four flight surgeon office at Mountain Home AFB, ID, with flying assignment to the 390th Electronic Tactical Squadron (EF-111A). From there he entered Residency training at Creighton University in Family Practice. He left for Elmendorf AFB, AK, spending 3 years in a full-scope, hospital-based practice before being accepted for training into twin residencies in Aerospace and Occupational Medicine at the School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks AFB, TX. He completed a MPH from the University of Texas during the time in San Antonio.

He was chosen to command the 9th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Beale AFB, CA which held the global mission to medically support high-altitude U-2 real-world operations based in Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, France, England, and Korea. He has logged diving time and over 500 hours of flying time in more than 30 different US and Allied military aircraft. His most notable accomplishments include the design and implementation of the first DOD Joint Family Practice Satellite clinic between Elmendorf AFB and Ft Richardson in Anchorage. He has provided expert analysis in human factors determinations on numerous occasions including military aircraft mishap investigations and commercial NW helicopter logging operations. As OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH medical group commander in the Mideast, he assured delivery of high quality field and in-patient care for over 5,000 US and Allied forces in five countries.

Dr Bertoldo is currently certified by the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Preventive Medicine and completed a year-long fellowship in Diving and Clinical Hyperbaric Medicine at the Davis Hyperbaric Laboratory in San Antonio, TX. He was chosen to take charge of the fellowship training in Hyperbaric Medicine for physicians in his new position as Chief, Clinical Research and Education in Hyperbaric Medicine. Primary emphasis will be the Triservice initiative to move Davis Hyperbaric Laboratory operations including patient care and research to join the Institute of Surgical Research and Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX, to further expand the application of hyperbaric oxygen to critical inpatients and bolster joint reseach efforts.
